In 2005, a new social media platform hit the scene – YouTube. Ever hear of it?
We thought so.
YouTube reported in March of 2011 that there is 35 hours of video uploaded to YouTube each minute. WOW!
With 2 billion, yes, with a B… 2 BILLION searches per day. Statistics and trends show us that many people use YouTube as a search engine when they are looking for information on a particular product or service.
Before the YouTube explosion, there was some unwritten law that you had to spend obnoxious amounts of money to hire a production crew, studio, editors, etc. in order to create a video to add to your website.
That time is OVER!
That mentality has been replaced with one that is fundamental in nature.
Technically speaking, simply making a video is pretty easy. Hit the record button, stand in front of the camera, turn the lights on and say something. Instant video. Unfortunately, that alone won’t make it a good video.
Video is about content and production: What’s in it, and how it’s presented.
For most personal blogs, it’s more important to provide great content (some of the most popular viral videos have some of the shoddiest production values), but much depends on what you want your video to accomplish.
